Ideologies are always changing. Zizek explores how aware audiences are of their control over this, yet remain dominated by the ideals of the media they consume.

Those in power use consent to stay in control, and that the power of ideology comes from ideas which support the elite.

suggests that ideology controls audience's  lives through two systems: major institutions (army, government, etc) andminor groups (religion, media, school, etc). The ideals promoted through these groups in the West are largely linked to consumerism

5) Do YOU agree with the idea behind They Live - that we are unthinkingly controlled by the media which is run in the interests of the economic elite? These are the big questions of A Level Media!

 I partly agree with They Live -  we are controlled by the media which is run in the interests of the capitalism. The media is controlled  in the interests of the owners of media companies, but not all consumers allow themselves to be controlled.
